This December issue will print close to Christmas and New Year's Day. I started thinking about what I would wish for all of us as a new year begins. Obviously, I would wish for world peace and no Covid-19. That part was easy. Right now, I just wish my holiday shopping was done! So, I decided on another approach and thought I would try to answer some questions that I and Dr. Hooper have received over the years. Why are there so many research articles in JoPAN? Dr. Hooper and I love to receive manuscripts that are clinical or continuing education articles because we know that our readers in the clinical areas appreciate them so much. Best practice articles fall between the research and clinical articles. Many are projects that have shown promise in other hospitals and allow you to determine if it might work in your setting. An example of a best practice article that was rich with clinical information is on the topic of resumption of breastfeeding after surgery. 1 We do not receive many clinical or continuing education submissions. We encourage our readers to develop lectures and interests into published articles. We could use in-depth clinical or continuing education articles on many topics. Some examples follow but are not limited to: laryngospasm and/or bronchospasm (especially in pediatrics), care of specific types of more complex cases that are now going home on the same day (joints, dental, plastics), emergence delirium, care of the patient after a cesarean section, obstetrical emergencies, how to find a fetal heart tone, new technology and its use, assessment and management of the patient with COVID-19 in the PACU. One continuing education article from 2003 on understanding the complete blood count was the most cited article ever at the end of 2020. 2 Researchers are much more likely to publish because one ethical responsibility of conducting research is dissemination. Also, publication of research results is important because research produces the evidence upon which our practice is based. How do I write a continuing education article? Many types of articles can be turned into a continuing education (CE) article. The author writes 2 to 3 objectives and at least 10 multiple choice ques-The ideas or opinions expressed in this editorial are those solely of the author and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of ASPAN, the Journal, or the Publisher.
