Show more

“…High levels of humidity and temperature in the milking parlor can increase the panting of animals and influence the temperature of external parts of the body (PORCIONATO et al, 2009). However, during the experimental period the THI values remained below 72, characterizing the thermoneutral conditions for dairy cows (SILVA et al, 2009).The minimum temperature recorded in the upper area of the udder was 31.17°C and the maximum 35.83°C.…”

“…This is reflected in the greater number of MRS 2 cows (defined by mild movements of one or both hind legs when fitting the teat cups), which may in turn reflect animals' habituation to stimuli present during milking, even after an average of three months of milking. Similarly, Porcionato et al (2009) observed a decrease in the number of dairy cows presenting 'undesirable' behaviors during milking after the fourth week of lactation, which, according to the authors, may have occurred due to animals' habituation to handling. In their 2015 article, Hedlund and Løvlie reported that dairy cows had higher consistency for stepping behavior during milking than for other behavioral measures, which highlights the importance of assessing the consistency of individual temperament measures over time.…”
