Abstract: We evaluated the effect of phosphorus application rates from various sources and in the presence or absence of filter cake on soil phosphorus, plant phosphorus, changes in acid phosphatase activity, and sugarcane productivity grown in Eutrophic Red Ultisol. Three P sources were used (triple superphosphate, Araxa rock phosphate, and Bayovar rock phosphate) and four application rates (0, 90, 180, and 360 kg ha−1 of P2O5) in the presence or absence of filter cake (7.5 t ha−1, dry basis). The soil P, the accumulat… Show more

“…For example, at Macatuba, FC addition enhanced P AER and Pi BIC by 75 and 71.4 %, respectively, compared to NFC, while in Agudos it increased only Pi BIC by 45.7 %. Similarly, increasing soil available P due to FC application has been reported in other studies (Shankaraiah and Murthy, 2005;Elsayed et al, 2008;Lima, 2011;Caione et al, 2015).…”

“…Stamford et al (2008), who found significant effects of rock biofertilizer with sulfur inoculated with Acidithiobacillus on the total P uptake in sugarcane in a greenhouse experiment. Significant effects of filter cake application on total P determined in shoots were also reported by Caione et al (2015).…”

“…Thus, in both of soil depths, it is possible to observe that this inoculation increased the available soil P contents more than 4 times in comparison to control treatments. Caione et al (2015) analyzed a Dystrophic Red Latosol soil submitted to the application of 360 kg P 2 O 5 ha −1 from superphosphate and cultivated with sugarcane for six months cycle. It was reported that the P available content increased to 57 mg dm −3 in 0-0.20 m layer of soil.…”

“…Even though the soils are efficient with total P but still a tiny fraction of P is available to plants (Sampaio, 2011). The low availability of phosphorus is due to low P in the source material, clay adsorption and its precipitation with oxides and hydroxides of Fe and Al (Caione et al, 2015). Therefore, a huge quantity of P fertilizers is applied which significantly adds to the cost of production of cane crop.…”
