At this time the rate of oxygen consumption is greatly suppressed (Bell, 1989), the alimentary tract reduces the rate of protein synthesis, and a diapause-specific 55 kDa protein begins to be expressed in the gut (Lee and Denlinger, 1996). In this study we find that the activity patterns of several gut enzymes also reflect changes inherent to the diapause program.…”
