Resistance spectra of six elite breeding lines of upland rice to Pyricularia grisea

Abstract: -The objective of this work was to evaluate the resistance spectra of six elite breeding lines of rice, developed for improved yield and grain quality, in inoculation tests in the greenhouse and in the field. Forty-six isolates of Pyricularia grisea collected from the cultivar Primavera, 31 from the cultivar Maravilha and 19 from six elite breeding lines, totaling 96 were utilized for inoculations. Out of 11 international and 15 Brazilian pathotypes, IC-1, IB-9, and BD-16, respectively, were identified as most… Show more

“…These pathotypes were also found to be predominant in an earlier study with 72 isolates of M. oryzae collected in experimental fields of 10 upland rice cultivars during 1994-1997 (Filippi & Prabhu et al, 2001), indicating their high frequency and preexistence in upland rice cultivars. On the other hand, the predominant pathotype IF-1 among both leaf and panicle isolates of Primavera was not reported in earlier studies probably because of the small sample of isolates used in the analysis (Prabhu et al, 2003). In the present study, the M. oryzae population analysis of cv.…”

“…Seeds from the backcross population and both parental lines were soaked in fungicide before transfer to Petri dishes containing wet filter paper. Germinated seeds were then planted in a greenhouse at 25°C in Agency Nuclear Malaysia following Prabhu et al (2003). Soil containing the recommended amount of NPK was supplied to plants sown in plastic trays (36 x 23 x 10 cm).…”

“…In contrast, a relatively high frequency of isolates from the cv. Maravilha were identified as pathotypes IB-41 and IB-9 (Prabhu et al, 2003). The predominance of the pathotypes IB-9 and IB-41 among isolates of Maravilha was also encountered among isolates of P. grisea retrieved from other upland rice cultivars (Filippi & Prabhu, 2001).…”

“…Primavera, whereas the pathotype IB-9 was commonly found among isolates of both cultivars Primavera and Maravilha. The pathotypes representing other groups (IA and ID) were obtained from the cultivars Primavera and Maravilha at low frequency (Prabhu et al, 2003).…”
