Research on the seismic retrofitting performance of RC frames using SC‐PBSPC BRBF substructures

Abstract: A new type of external substructure to upgrade existing reinforced concrete frames (RCFs) is presented in this paper, namely, a self-centering precast bolt-connected steel-plate reinforced concrete buckling-restrained brace frame (SC-PBSPC BRBF). The upgrade mechanism and three-dimensional simulation model were analyzed based on relevant experiment validations. A quasistatic analysis and parameter study was conducted using 21 scenarios to compare the upgrading effects of the outside substructure. Afterwards, a… Show more

“…In addition to energy savings, sustainable renovation makes buildings better in terms of their economic, social and environmental qualities [1]. To achieve sustainability, it is also important to consider renovation technologies in the seismic zones [3]. For instance, Cao et al [4] published a state-of-the-art review of retrofitting technologies.…”

“…Cao [5] developed an effective iterative procedure for precast concrete structures to match the target responses generated from seismic ground motion histories. Cao et al [6] also enhanced the seismic performance of an existing three-dimensional building model subjected to thirty different earthquake records by implementing a self-centring reinforced concrete buckling-resistant brace frame. Recently, Xu et al [7] proved the seismic effectiveness of steel-reinforced concrete brace frames in reducing the axial forces of existing beams and columns.…”

“…According to the government proposal in China, the precast-assembly rate in the next 10 years is required to reach 30 %, thus, the academia and industry are paying great attention to this field from the aspects of micro mechanism to macro configuration [2,3,4]. Among all the precast structural types, the reinforced concrete frame (RCF) structure is the most commonly used one, which contains the superiority of flexibility in arrangement and convenience in standardization.…”
