Reproductive Biology and Flowering of Feijoa (Acca sellowiana (Berg) Burret) in Areas of Marginal Occurrence

Abstract: Studies of feijoa adaptability in different locations, with specific weather conditions can be useful for the cultivation of the species. The objective of this work was to study aspects of reproductive biology (pollen viability and fruit set under different methods of pollination) and flowering phenology of feijoa in regions of marginal species occurrence. Progenies of five different crosses were evaluated in 2011 in Pato Branco and Dois Vizinhos, Paraná, Brazil. Effective fruit set was low with man… Show more

“…The most extensive production is found in Colombia, New Zealand, Georgia, Ukraine, but also in the United States, Australia, Turkey, China and with an increasing area of cultivation in Brazil (Sachet et al, 2019;Sánchez-Mora et al, 2019). This distribution in such varied countries and climates demonstrates the great potential for the plasticity that this species possesses for adaptation to very diverse environmental conditions (Donazzolo et al, 2019). Ouafaa et al (2019) not only highlight the fruit's easy adaptation to subtropical climates but also the sweet aromatic characteristics of the feijoa fruit that favor its distribution in so many countries.…”
