South Asia's groundwater economy stands at the threshold of a revolution in adoption of solar irrigation pumps (SIPs). This has potential to unlock the region's perverse energy-groundwater nexus. In much of South Asia, the price of energy used in irrigation, the only surrogate for water price, fails to signal the abundance or scarcity of groundwater, resulting in myriad distortions. We analyse these in South Asia's eight distinct energy-groundwater interaction settings. We then explore SIP promotion policies to ease pressure on scarce groundwater in South Asia's 'groundwater depletion zone' and accelerate groundwater irrigation for poverty reduction in its 'groundwater abundance zone'.

Auto-Stirring Grains Bed Dryer as an Innovative Efficiency Solution

The government has budgeted assistance/grants continuously many bed dryers to farmers but many of them were not used because farmers felt that the drying production rate of rice is more expensive than the traditional open sun drying. The farmers choose to go back to the traditional way that takes the drying process longer than using the dryer. For 1 year, open sun drying can process 100 batches, and dryer can process 450 batches. This research tries to solve the high cost problem by looking for a new alternative solution. The solution is replacing the oil burner with a rice husk burner, which is appropriate both economically and environmentally. For the stirring mechanism, this system must continuously stir up the pile of grains during the drying process. The point must be fulfilled is that the total cost of the drying process should not rise, especially the cost of the stirring process. A stirrer mechanism that needs smaller power than the maximum power setting is made. Farmers’ income for this innovative modification will get a 332% increasing profit than using oil burner bed dryer machine and will get a 41% increasing in welfare than using the standard husk burner bed dryer.

Wind energy makes a significant contribution to global power generation. Predicting wind turbine capacity is becoming increasingly crucial for cleaner production. For this purpose, a new information priority accumulated grey model with time power is proposed to predict short-term wind turbine capacity. Firstly, the computational formulas for the time response sequence and the prediction values are deduced by grey modeling technique and the definite integral trapezoidal approximation formula. Secondly, an intelligent algorithm based on particle swarm optimization is applied to determine the optimal nonlinear parameters of the novel model. Thirdly, three real numerical examples are given to examine the accuracy of the new model by comparing with six existing prediction models. Finally, based on the wind turbine capacity from 2007 to 2017, the proposed model is established to predict the total wind turbine capacity in Europe, North America, Asia, and the world. The numerical results reveal that the novel model is superior to other forecasting models. It has a great advantage for small samples with new characteristic behaviors.Besides, reasonable suggestions are put forward from the standpoint of the practitioners and governments, which has high potential to advance the sustainable improvement of clean energy production in the future. .
