Removal of cobalt and lead ions from wastewater samples using an insoluble nanosponge biopolymer composite: adsorption isotherm, kinetic, thermodynamic, and regeneration studies

Abstract: In this study, an insoluble nanosponge biopolymer composite was synthesized, using a combined process of amidation reaction, cross-linking polymerization, and sol-gel method to obtain a phosphorylated multiwalled carbon nanotube-cyclodextrin/silver-doped titania (pMWCNT-βCD/TiO-Ag). This work mainly emphasized on the removal of lead (Pb) and cobalt (Co) metal ions from synthetic and real wastewater samples using the synthesized pMWCNT-βCD/TiO-Ag as a biosorbent. The new material was characterized by Fourier tr… Show more

“…On the other hand, Dubinin‐Radushkevich (D‐R) model is mainly applied to describe the mechanism of adsorption on a uniform surface while considering the activation energy. D‐R model allows to assess the extent in which the adsorption capacity is distributed by individual pore ranges . Temkin isotherm is a model expressing the interaction between solute molecule from aqueous phase and uniform solid surface.…”

“…D-R model allows to assess the extent in which the adsorption capacity is distributed by individual pore ranges. [43] Temkin isotherm is a model expressing the interaction between solute molecule from aqueous phase and uniform solid surface. This useful tool clarifies that the adsorption heat of all molecules in the absorbed layer with the coated surface reduces linearly based on the absorption interaction.…”

“…In this case, because of the coordination mechanism of lead adsorption on the Fe 3 O 4 -NHSO 3 H@HKUST-1 nanocomposite, the combined effects on adsorption of lead ion depend on the solution pH, concentration of coexisting ions, ion-ligand interaction, and ion-ion competition at the active sites of adsorption. “…Based on its long-term impact, Cr(VI) has been listed as the first-class A toxic pollutant by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency [3]. While Pb(II) acts as one of the most harmful heavy metals [4], plumbism by accumulation in human body can result in damages in brain, nervous, metabolic and reproductive system, even trigger sickness or death [5,6]. The bulk of these contaminations as effluents are discharged from several industries, including mining, batteries, textiles, metal plating, etc.…”
