This paper analyzes the effects of intercity bus suspension system oscillatory parameters on driver's ride comfort and road damage. The analysis has been carried out through simulation by means of validated in-plane bus model with six degrees of freedom excited by real road roughness signal. Low root-mean-square values of the weighted vertical acceleration (less than 0.315 m/s2) have been achieved by shock-absorbers with lower damping coefficient and softer suspension system springs. Low values of dynamic load coefficient provide low shock-absorber damping and softer springs. However, low crest factor values for both axles are accomplished for high shock-absorber damping and softer springs in bus suspension system. Results from this analysis could be used as reference for selecting proper oscillatory parameter values when designing road-friendly bus suspension system which in turn would increase vehicle energy efficiency. Presented methods, results and analyzes are the part of wider methodology for assessing the impact of bus suspension system on fuel consumption and CO2 emission.

In order to cover the complexity of coding and extend the generality on the road vehicle-bridge iteration, a process to solve vehiclebridge interaction considering varied vehicle speed based on a convenient combination of Matlab Simulink and ANSYS is presented. In this way, the road vehicle is modeled in state space and the corresponding motion equations are solved using Simulink. The finite element model for the bridge is established and solved using ANSYS. The so-called inter-history iteration method is adopted to realize the interaction between the vehicle model and the bridge model. Different from typical method of road vehicle-bridge interaction in the vertical direction, a detailed longitudinal force model is set up to take into account the effects of varied vehicle speed. In the force model, acceleration and braking of the road vehicle are treated differently according to their mechanical nature. In the case studies based on a simply supported beam, the dynamic performance of the road vehicle and the bridge under varied vehicle speeds is calculated and discussed. The vertical acceleration characteristics of the midpoint of beam under varied vehicle speed can be grouped into two periods. The first one is affected by the load transform between the wheels, and the other one depends on the speed amplitude. Sudden change of the vertical acceleration of the beam and the longitudinal reaction force are observed as the wheels move on or off the bridge, and the bridge performs different dynamic responses during acceleration and braking.

Knowing how a musical instrument vibrates can benefit the tonal characteristics shaping of the instrument. In this research, an approach for investigating the mode shapes and natural frequencies of Setar body is addressed. First, mechanical properties of wood used in the production of Setar are analyzed experimentally. Then a numerical modal test is performed to find the mode shapes and natural frequencies of Setar structure. To validate the results obtained by the numerical method, experimental modal testing is also done for the structure, and it is found that the results of both the methods are in good consistency. As the vibration pattern of plates is of utmost importance in the production of musical instruments, vibration patterns of a Setar plate are experimentally extracted and the results are compared with finite element analysis.
