Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…In addition to neuroleptic therapy, various other factors may be involved in the development of tardive dyskinesia including the age and sex of the patient, genetic predisposition, preexisting organic brain disease, duration and total dose of neuroleptics or other medications, and previous ECT. Wegner et al (1979) found a high prevalence of the rare B-mitten EEG dysrhythmia which they suggest may indicate a preexisting structural or functional vulnerability to neuroleptic-induced dysregulation. Wegner et al 6 and Struve and Willner 20 have suggested that a specific EEG pattern, B mitten, is a risk factor for tardive dyskinesia. The B mitten pattern consists of sharp transients followed by a higher voltage slow-wave which is detected during deep sleep recordings.…”
