Purpose. The study was intended to describe the correlations between speed performance (11 m, 22 m, and 33 m) and agility test in skates with determinants of muscular power (squat jump, countermovement jump) in young Portuguese roller hockey athletes involved in a regional selection. Methods. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 10 male roller hockey players with mean (± SD) age of 14.20 (0.57) years, involved in the Portuguese national competition of under-15, making part of the final Oporto district selection of players to participate in interregional selections competition. Their mean (± SD) weight, height, body mass index, and sum of the skinfolds were 58.62 (8.78) kg, 165.72 (8.45) cm, 21.26 (1.52) kg/m 2 , 51.80 (14.91) mm, respectively. Furthermore, it strength was measured with squat jump and countermovement jump; sprinting time at 11 m, 22 m, and 33 m was determined, as well as time in an agility t-test, conducted in roller skating. Spearman correlation coefficients were calculated to test the associations. Results. Significant inverse correlations between vertical jumps, a practical method of power training monitoring, and linear velocity in skating (countermovement jump vs. speed,-0.78) were found. Despite the increasing complexity of the agility test, a moderate inverse correlation with strength was observed, too (-0.48). Conclusions. Lower limbs explosive strength turned out a strong predictor of skating linear speed and agility among young roller hockey players, providing a simple evaluation tool of important determinants of performance.

O estudo teve como objetivo comparar a altura no salto agachado (SA) e no com contramovimento (SCM) de mulheres idosas. Vinte e oito mulheres idosas sedentárias voluntariaram-se para participar neste estudo (idade média de 68,7±5,9 anos). Cada sujeito foi instruído sobre como executar as técnicas de salto e descansaram 5 minutos entre a realização dos diferentes saltos. A média de 3 tentativas de cada salto foi utilizada para a análise estatística. A força de reação do solo (FRS) vertical durante o SA e o SCM foi mensurada por meio de uma plataforma de força. A integração numérica da FRS vertical no tempo foi utilizada para o cálculo do impulso e assim estimar a altura do salto. O teste T para amostras pareadas mostrou que a altura do salto no SCM foi significativamente maior do que no SA.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the association and agreement of fitnessgram reference criteria (RC) for cardiorespiratory fitness, body mass index (BMI) and strength in youth. METHODS: The study included 781 youth, 386 females, aged 10 to 18 years of Londrina-PR. It were performed cardiorespiratory fitness and muscular strength tests and was calculated body mass index. The association between the tests was analyzed using Poisson regression to obtain prevalence ratio (PR) and confidence intervals of 95%, while agreement of the reference criteria was tested by Kappa index. RESULTS: Significant associations were found between cardiorespiratory fitness and BMI (PR=1,49, 1,27-1,75), muscle strength and BMI (PR=1,55, 1,17-2,08), cardiorespiratory fitness and muscle strength (PR=1,81, 1,47-2,24). The agreement between reference criteria ranged from weak to fair, 48.8% (k=0.05, p=0.10) for cardiorespiratory fitness and BMI, 52.9% (k=0.09, p=0.001) for muscle strength and BMI and 38.4% (k=0.22, p<0.001) for cardiorespiratory fitness and muscle strength. CONCLUSIONS: Although RC for cardiorespiratory fitness, muscle strength and BMI are associated, the agreement between them ranged from weak to fair. To evaluate health related physical fitness it is suggest the execution of all tests, since each test has specific characteristics.
