“…Adjuvant treatment is rational and potentially useful after salvage surgery, and we administered this treatment via interstitial HDR IRT. This use is likely the most frequent perioperative use of IRT in head and neck oncology and was validated in international studies with very encouraging oncological results . We most often associated this treatment with reconstructive procedures (77%) because most of treated lesions were bulky and extensively involved the skin.…”

“…A potentially curative dose may be delivered via brachytherapy in patients who are otherwise mostly candidates for palliation or best supportive care when radical resection is not considered feasible . We recommend brachytherapy in these cases only if we see the perspective of a curative treatment, which can be obtained only with a complete coverage of the tumor volume, and at the same time a low‐risk catheter placement.…”

“…External beam radiation therapy extends survival in patients diagnosed with head and neck cancer; however, occurring xerostomia, dysphagia, impaired ability to sense taste, postradiation caries worsens the quality of life [35]. It is likely that delivering repeated external beam radiation therapy in patients diagnosed with head and neck cancer relapse would lead to higher frequency of late reactions.…”
