Abstract: objective: Describe clinical characteristics of patients (P) admitted to hospital with suspected acute coronary syndrome (ACS), identifying medical treatment and in-hospital mortality. Methods: Evaluated were 860 patients with ACS from January through December, 2003. We evaluated baseline characteristics, ACS mode of presentation, medication during hospital stay, indication for clinical treatment or myocardial revascularization (MR) and in-hospital mortality. Results: Five hundred and three (58.3%) were male, me… Show more

“…Two points that provide examples of this limitation were the percentage of non-ST elevation ACS patients, which was larger than in the original GRACE cohort, 3 although similar to a Brazilian registry, 29 and the observation that all ST-elevation myocardial infarction patients were treated with primary angioplasty, which is only routinely performed in reference centers. 29 Second, we did not gather some data that could be important for prognostic information, such as the use of medications like aspirin, clopidogrel, beta-blockers and statins, because these data were not available in our database.…”

These data could give better insight regarding our patients' profile and the healthcare that they received.…”

“…One of the most important observations was the large number of patients with ACS without ST elevation (38.7%) in a general hospital, a figure comparable to the 40.0% of emergency centers in cardiology 16 . The coronary angiography allows the precise identification of the extent and severity of coronary obstructions, complements the prognostic stratification and the identification of the most appropriate treatment (medical, surgical or percutaneous revascularization), regarding the coronary anatomy presented angiographically.…”
