Background: The increasing worldwide mental health crisis, notably anxiety, emphasizes the urgency for available and effective interventions. Traditional therapies, although beneficial, pose limitations due to their considerable costs and possible adverse effects, thereby inviting alternative treatments such as auricular acupressure. This non-pharmacological, integrative method, underpinned by Eastern and Western medical principles, presents a significant prospect for managing anxiety. Objective：This study aims to evaluate the existing evidence on the efficacy of auricular acupressure (AA) in reducing anxiety, as elucidated through a systematic review. Methods: A comprehensive search of randomized controlled trials was conducted across various databases: the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Biology Medicine (CBM), Wan Fang, and Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals (VIP). Two reviewers retrieved the pertinent studies, assessed their methodological quality. A meta-analysis was then conducted, incorporating data from all relevant time points. Results: Upon examining 25 studies encompassing 1909 participants, it was discerned that auricular acupressure (AA) significantly diminished anxiety (SMD=-1.1074; 95% CI, -1.348 to -0.801; z=7.70, p<0.01). Subgroup analyses indicated that neither an increased number of auricular points nor extended intervention augmented effects. Larger effect sizes were associated with probing and avoidance of sham acupressure. Notably, 23 of the 25 studies exhibited some bias, suggesting further research is necessary. Conclusions: The extant evidence advocates for auricular acupressure (AA) as an effective supplementary intervention that reduces patient anxiety. The results hint at a potential placebo effect elicited by sham acupressure, necessitating rigorous control group definitions in future inquiries. The study findings suggest that fewer acupressure points and shorter intervention durations could effectively alleviate anxiety symptoms. Nonetheless, the significant heterogeneity across the studies underscores the requirement for more stringent research methodologies to substantiate these conclusions.

BACKGROUND: Acupoint buried beans on the auricle is a feasible method to prevent and treat postpartum urinary retention. OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the effect of auricular acupoint buried beans on postpartum urination and maternal and fetal outcomes following epidural analgesia for labor. METHODS: Two hundred forty primiparas underwent vaginal trial labor analgesia from May 2020 to January 2021 and were randomly placed into the intervention and control groups. Both groups received epidural labor analgesia. Maternal urination during labor, 2 h postpartum, and the time for first postpartum urination were recorded as primary outcomes, with maternal and infant outcomes documented as secondary results. Statistical analysis was performed using the independent sample t-test, non-parametric rank-sum, or chi-square test using the SPSS Statistics 25.0 software. RESULTS: Two hundred eight study participants were subsequently included in the results, i.e., 105 patients in the intervention group and 103 in the control group. The intervention group comprised a significantly lower number of patients with excessive residual urine volume at cervical dilatation of 5–6 cm (P< 0.05). The total postpartum score of the intervention group was lower than in the control group (P< 0.01), and the time to first urination was shorter compared with the control group (P< 0.05). In the intervention group, the time of labor analgesia, the duration of the first stage of labor, and the total labor time were shorter compared with the control group (P< 0.01). CONCLUSION: Auricular acupoint embedded beans can improve the urination status at cervical dilatation of 5–6 cm and 2 h postpartum, as well as significantly shorten the duration of labor.

The 7 “P” factors influencing the child-birth process are “Power”, ”Passage”, “Passenger”, “Psyche”, ”Pain”, “Patience”, and “Position”. Psyche includes anxiety, which for laboring mothers creates tension, vasoconstriction in uterine blood vessels, pain, reduced uterine contraction, and delayed cervical opening so that childbirth takes longer. Long childbirth or partus can increase mothers' and babies' morbidity and mortality rates. This research aimed to identify the correlation between Knowledge Level and Anxiety Facing Childbirth in Primiparous Mothers at Panembahan Senopati Hospital Bantul. This study was quantitative research with a descriptive-analytic design using the cross-sectional approach. The population in this research consisted of 145 primipara mothers, with purposive sampling of 59 respondents. The data were collected with a questionnaire and analyzed with the Spearman Rank Correlation Test. The respondents’ knowledge level belonged to the ‘good’ category, 96.6%, while the anxiety level among the primipara mothers belonged to the ‘moderate’ category, 79.7%. The analysis of the correlation between the knowledge level and the anxiety level among Primipara mothers in Panembahan Senopati Hospital Bantul resulted in a p-value = 0.001 with a Rho-Spearman correlation value of -0,415. There was a moderate correlation between knowledge and anxiety levels among primipara mothers in Panembahan Senopati Hospital Bantul. Healthcare providers can promote the seven essential power education models of childbirth ("Power," "Passage," "Passenger," "Psyche," "Position," "Pain," and "Patience") in maternity nursing practice so that nurses can pay attention to the complexities of care holistically for women who give birth
