“…Compared with that of other Meliponini, the trophic niche of Tetragonisca angustula is relatively small (H' < 1.5) in the two areas studied (Carvalho et al, 1999;Oliveira et al, 2009;Ferreira et al, 2010). However, values close to those recorded in our study were obtained for T. angustula at other Brazilian locations.…”

“…2). Many protocols applied, for studies and identification of pollen collected by bees, work separately, collecting only the pollen from the pollen basket (Oliveira et al 2009;Ferreira et al 2010), in regurgitated nectar, in pollen pots or in honey (Rech & Absy 2011a;Rech & Absy 2011b). In two separate studies, Dórea et al (2009; studied the post--emergence residue of Centris tarsata Smith.…”

“…Overall, the Melastomataceae family was the most representative in terms of pollen types. Melastomataceae is widely distributed in the region and is well represented in numerous studies of stingless bees in the Amazon (Marques-Souza et al 1995;Marques-Souza 1996;Marques-Souza et al 1996;Marques-Souza et al 2002;Oliveira et al 2009). …”

“…However, they can intensify collection at certain sources, indicating some degree of selectivity [15][16][17][18][19], as also observed in specialized solitary bees [20,21]. Their focus on a few selected sources can be explained by optimal foraging theory [22], which proposes that bees concentrate their visits on the most profitable sources, that is, those that offer more energy than what spent to acquire the resource.…”
