“…During the first 30 to 60 minutes after subcutaneous injection in the thigh insulin shows a gradually increasing absorption rate, and only after this initial phase (the lag phase) do first order kinetics with a constant absorption rate apply.2 3 The lag phase is probably due to local diffusion in the subcutaneous tissue, and during this phase the absorption may not be correlated with the subcutaneous blood flow-as it can in the late phase.4 As smoking induces a decrease in subcutaneous blood flow6 a fall in insulin absorption should be expected during the phase with first order kinetics but not during the initial lag phase.…”

Unusual ocular presentation of acute toxoplasmosis.

“…Hogan et al reported an unusual patient with a positive dye titre only in undiluted serum but who had toxoplasma organisms in his eye at necropsy (Hogan et al, 1964). Others have found equally low Sabin-Feldman dye titres in histologically proved cases, including 1 case which was seronegative (Zscheile, 1964;Franceschetti and Engelbrecht, 1964). There has been good agreement (95 %) between the Sabin-Feldman dye test and the indirect fluorescent antibody test regarding their specificity and sensitivity (Scott, 1974;Walton et al, 1966).…”
