Recurrent and non-recurrent feline injection-site sarcoma: computed tomographic and ultrasonographic findings

Abstract: CT and US features common to FISS lesions were highlighted in this study. The imaging modalities employed allowed assessment of peritumoral inflammation, particularly adipose tissue inflammation. Imaging data may contribute to FISS diagnosis, therapeutic planning and patient follow-up.

“…However, our findings suggest that soft tissue mineralization can also be seen in small FISS when using precontrast images of CTA. The present finding that mineralization was seen within the soft tissues of the masses with no adjacent bony lysis is similar to findings in other studies . In this and prior studies, no bone lysis was seen in cats with large masses having a large region of contact with adjacent bone.…”

“…Many FISS in this study exhibited heterogeneous contrast medium enhancement that is similar to the previously described ring or peripheral enhancement of FISS on both CTA and MRI . In the present study, when FISS were imaged with MRI, there was a size threshold for heterogeneity.…”
