Reconfigurable System for Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) and Near Field Communications (NFC)

Abstract: In this work, it is investigated the possibility of using near field communication (NFC), normally applied for communicating two proximity devices, to power-up external circuitry, such as low power wireless sensors, or energy scavenging devices. For this purpose, the possibility of combining both features in a single system, able to communicate with neighboring devices via NFC and to transfer power from one device to another (wireless power transfer WPT), has been studied. After taking considerations on anten… Show more

“…This requires the antenna to be dual-band; one band for the energy harvesting function and other for the data transfer function. This is a grave challenge as the design of a single dual-band AoC which can display better performance at both the operating bands is an extremely difficult task [235]. Table 1-4 confirm that already designed dual-band AoCs are very few in the literature.…”

“…NFC [16] more or less utilizes these variations of Z in at the Tx terminal occurring between the two load states of Rx, but mostly at a close proximity of Tx to Rx. Using the results in Table 1, we can assess the transfer capability of Rx information for the usual resonant WPT systems.…”

“…Several realizations for a system consisting of a Tx loop with r 0 = 10 cm and a Rx loop with r 0 = 5 cm are shown in Table 2, where the quality factor Q is the geometrical mean of Q 0 and Q 1 (5). The coupling coefficients k were obtained using [16].…”

“…Owing to the stability, flexibility, and high efficiency, wireless power transfer (WPT) technology is becoming more and more popular, and it has been applied in many fields, such as electric vehicles, mobile phones, wireless sensors, medical equipment, robotics [1][2][3][4], etc. As far as the application of WPT technology is concerned, data transmission between the transmitter side and receiver side is usually needed to implement the feedback control of power flow, the state monitoring of the system, the detection of load and foreign objects, etc.…”
