Reconfigurable machining process planning for part variety in new manufacturing paradigms: Definitions, models and framework

Abstract: Conventional machining process planning approaches are inefficient to handle the process planning complexity induced by part variety. Reconfigurable process planning is a new process planning approach which has been well recognized as a key enabler for current manufacturing paradigms. However, in the literature, there is neither a comprehensive part variety representation model to support reconfigurable process planning nor a global solution framework to instruct the generation of the feasible process plans fo… Show more

“…The programming flexibility is realized by dividing the NC programming process into two modules: preprocessing and post-processing. Aiming at the problems of high planning complexity and low efficiency in the process planning of part variant, Qing et al [25] proposed a configurable machining process planning method for part family, which comprehensively applies the feature-based part variant model and process configuration mechanism. The traditional process design system for a single model is upgraded to a design system that can process a group of parts (i.e.…”

“…However, it has not often been used for the representation of part and product families and a variation analysis within these families. One application of the DFC on this aspect known to the authors is proposed by Xia et al (2018).…”

“…Khanna and Kumar (2017) have also used BEA for RMS part family formation through the part operation incidence matrix. Xia et al . 2018 have used graph technique and constraint logic programming method to form the part families on the basis of their process plans (manufacturing attributes) for a particular manufacturing circumstance.…”
