“…The decision of initiating first line disease-modifying treatment (Interferon beta 1a in all cases) was made by an experienced multiple sclerosis neurologist at the multiple sclerosis clinic at Glostrup Hospital and was not influenced by the study in any way. Prophylactic disease-modifying treatment was initiated in accordance with international recommendations ( Clerico et al , 2008 ) within 2–6 weeks after onset of optic neuritis. The timing of initiation of treatment and diagnosis of multiple sclerosis for the patients who converted to multiple sclerosis can be seen in Fig.…”
