“…Dimethyl carbonate (DMC) is a green molecule which has found applications in several industries because of its versatility such as nontoxicity, biodegradability and also used as a vital reactant for the synthesis of diphenyl carbonate and glycerol carbonate. It is used as a fuel additive in gasoline because of its high oxygen content of 53% . It is also employed as a solvent in the synthesis of polymers or pharmaceutical compounds, as an electrolyte in lithium-ion batteries, and biodiesel production. There are several routes of producing DMC such as methanolysis of urea, transesterification of propylene carbonate (PC)/ethylene carbonate with methanol, and direct synthesis from methanol and carbon dioxide. Various metal-based heterogeneous catalysts have been evaluated for the synthesis of DMC.…”
