Recent advances in ipso-nitration reactions

Abstract: In the present review the various types of ipso-nitration reactions, in particular those advances in ipsonitration reactions that have been reported since the beginning of this century (i.e., from [2000][2001][2002][2003][2004][2005][2006][2007][2008][2009][2010][2011][2012][2013][2014][2015] are discussed. The review highlights the recent developments of the ipso-nitration reactions, a variety of the differences between traditional and modern methods for performing ipso-nitration reactions, as well as the mos… Show more

“…Ipso additions/substitutions typically occur under specialized circumstances, such as certain nitration reactions [41] or enzyme-catalyzed hydroxylation of para-cresol and related aromatic phenols by cytochrome P450 [42]. In the later situation, substituent elimination is accompanied with ipso substitution by an oxygen atom of the active species, and there is a requirement for a hydroxyl group at the para-position to the leaving group.…”

“…The classical electrophilic nitration of arene is one of the most widely studied reactions in organic chemistry . Typically, this reaction is performed using a wide variety of nitrating agents that include nitric acid, mixed acid, nitric acid/solid super acid, nitric acid/acetic anhydride, nitronium salts, alkyl nitrites/Lewis acid, N 2 O 4 , urea nitrate, AgNO 3 /BF 3 , and so forth.…”

“…Thus, it is no surprise that researchers around the globe constantly contribute to the development of nitration chemistry. Recent advances in the field have been documented, 11 including the progress on continuous flow nitration, 12 decarboxylative nitration, 13 safe and sustainable nitration, 11c transition-metal-catalyzed C(sp 2 )–H nitration, 14 ipso -nitration reactions, 15 and nitrative difunctionalizations. 16 In addition, several reviews cover the synthesis of nitro compounds of distinct structures, such as aliphatic 17 and aromatic 18 19 compounds, alkenes, 20 alkynes, 21 and porphyrins.…”
