Realistic and Transparent Optimum Scheduling Strategy for Hybrid Power System

Abstract: This paper addresses the transparent and realistic optimum day-ahead (DA) scheduling for a hybrid power system by explicitly considering the uncertainties. The basic components of the hybrid power system include conventional thermal generators, wind farm, and solar photovoltaic (PV) modules. A set of batteries is available for energy storage and/or discharge. The most critical problem in operating a wind farm or solar PV module is that these renewable energy resources cannot be dispatched in the same manner as… Show more

“…Future development of photovoltaic and, in general, of all clean and renewable technologies, is related to the possibility to use energy when is needed. For this reason, energy storage represents a key component in the development of renewable energies [1][2][3][4]. Energy storage makes it possible to meet users needs during out-of-production periods.…”

“…Non-deterministic UC can be divided into four different categories depending on the way in which they address the uncertainty: stochastic programming [90][91][92][93], robust optimization [99,100], interval optimization [101], and risk-based optimization [102,103].…”

“…Still, the abovementioned stochastic methods aggregate wind generations from different places as one Markovian process and so the transmission constraints cannot be considered. A DA OPF considering Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) value is proposed in [93] where it uses a probabilistic real-time adjustment cost to calculate the uncertainty of demand and supply and solves the optimization problem using a genetic algorithm. A REC is a paper or electronic certification which represents the property rights to the environmental, social, and other non-power attributes of renewable energy generation, and traded in market to expand the RERs.…”

“…The penetration of renewable power generation has increased substantially in recent years [1]. The use of renewable energy such as wind power and hydropower can reduce greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels.…”
