Real-Time Cooperative Communication for Automation Over Wireless

Abstract: High-performance industrial automation systems rely on tens of simultaneously active sensors and actuators and have stringent communication latency and reliability requirements. Current wireless technologies like WiFi, Bluetooth, and LTE are unable to meet these requirements, forcing the use of wired communication in industrial control systems. This paper introduces a wireless communication protocol that capitalizes on multiuser diversity and cooperative communication to achieve the ultrareliability with a low… Show more

“…Given the significant interest in industrial automation use cases over the last decade, and the associated efforts to devise wireless communication systems for such use cases, efforts were also undertaken to experimentally determine the viability of ultra-reliable low-latency communication systems. Early efforts are reflected for instance in several system concepts and prototypes [52]- [54] showing the principal viability of URLLC-like systems. Accompanying URLLC standardization, several URLLC trials have been conducted with respect to 3GPP 5G Release 16 features.…”

“…The fullyconnected neural net uses m = 2 past channel estimates. The architecture used in [14] did not yield good results on measured data, so another hidden layer was added and the hidden layers were widened from 2 to 5. The neural net is fully connected and has two hidden layers with five nodes each, as depicted in Fig.…”

“…Cooperative relaying system (CRS) plays a vital role in providing higher diversity gain and expanding network coverage [9, 10]. Capacity analysis of a CRS using NOMA for spatially multiplexed transmissions is performed in [11], the destination receives and combines two independent copies of the same data signal transmitted from the source via the direct and relaying channels during two slots, which improves the reception quality of the signal.…”
