“…PCR technique proved to be just as effective as histopathological methods for the ‘control positive’ samples and provided the diagnosis in a further four eyes. Reactivation of TCR following cataract surgery has recently been reported 10 . One of our two patients was just such a case and the diagnosis of TCR was confirmed by PCR on a vitreous sample.…”

“…One eye presented on week 1 an IOP of 30 mmHg and maintained ocular hypertension despite adequate clinical ma nagement, being further referred to glaucoma filtering surgery; this eye underwent an intraoperative subtenon triamcinolone acetonide injection and this procedure could be the cause of these finding. Uveitis relapse was seen in only one eye in our series, this patient had toxoplasmic retinochoroiditis and developed a reactivation in the second month of followup; an increased risk of reactivation of ocular toxoplasmosis following cataract surgery was described by BoschDriessen et al, (17) reactivation occurred in 5/15 eyes within four months of cataract surgery (three within three months), a higher rate than we have found.…”

“…The other three cases of recurrence seen happened many months after surgery and were unlikely related to it. The criteria to consider reactivation secondary to the procedure were the same as those used by Bosch-Driessen et al (4 months) 7. In our study apart from one, patients presented reactivation in 13, 14 and 17 months.…”
