Gaseous mixtures of oxygen and toluene have been passed through a 50 Hz electrical discharge reactor at low pressure. Oxidation reactions produced benzaldehyde, benzene, benzyl alcohol and cresols. Reaction rates varied with partial pressure of reactants, electrical field strength and temperature, although, in the absence of an electrical discharge the thermal reaction was negligible. A fit to experimental data was obtained with an equation which included reactant concentrations, temperature and applied volta…
scite is a Brooklyn-based startup that helps researchers better discover and evaluate scientific articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by researchers from dozens of countries and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
