Rationally Designed Anti‐Glare Panel Arrays as Highway Wind Energy Harvester

Abstract: The anti-glare panels along highways can block the dazzling lights of opposing vehicles at night, playing an important role in the highway safety. Inspired by the highway anti-glare panels, wind energy harvesting triboelectric nanogenerator (AG-TENG) arrays to properly capture energy from highway moving vehicles is developed. A single AG-TENG installation module can achieve a high power density of 0.2 Wm −2 at a wind speed of 3 m s −1 . This wind speed is too low to drive conventional wind energy harvesting eq… Show more

“…The fabricated TENG with an elastic and self-adaptable structure demonstrates a high average power of 0.21 W compared to many benchmarks in harvesting wind energy (Fig. 1h), including wing-design TENG, 36 transparent and degradable TENG, 37 mail-design TENG, 38 anti-glare panel TENG, 39 dual-rotation shaft TENG, 40 triboelectric-electromagnetic hybridized nanogenerators, 41 rabbit fur-based soft-contact TENG, 42 flower-bud array cotton-based TENG, 43 and elastic rotation TENG. 44 The designed self-powered system based on the TENG can not only achieve energy and chemical savings, but also shows high element selectivities of 99.75% and 99.70% for FePO 4 and Li 2 CO 3 , respectively, based on the refined X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns (Fig.…”

“…Then, a functional circuit mainly consisting of a gas discharge tube (GDT) for charge accumulation and release was employed to manage the output of the FR-TENG in order to improve the power supply capability. 36 First, the AC electrical signal of the TENG is rectified into a DC signal. Then when the voltage amplitude exceeds the threshold value of the GDT, the GDT is broken down and the circuit is turned on, and a large amount of charge is instantaneously transferred to the inductance and capacitance.…”

“…Furthermore, the inescapable degradation of infrastructure systems resulting from prolonged operation in severe conditions and substantial vehicle loads is also a cause for concern [172]. The utilization of TENG in infrastructure systems has yielded several noteworthy accomplishments, encompassing the development of self-sustaining traffic light systems for roadways and tunnels, as well as self-powered monitoring systems for bridges and other civil infrastructure [118,[134][135][136][141][142][143].…”
