Studies on ground vibration induced by railway operation usually focused on wagons running on ground or abutments, while vibration from a railway viaduct is often assumed to be much lower. Based on field test in the vicinity of a heavy freight railway viaduct above Shenshan Village, China, the attenuation of ground vibration induced by heavy freight wagons for coal transportation is studied. And evaluation is conducted on an adjacent house to access vibration disturbance to residents near a viaduct. Propagation and attenuation of vibration induced from viaduct are studied by analyzing peak particle velocity and spectra of ground and house vibration in the vicinity of the viaduct. Vibration signals were collected for 34 trains with different train speed and wagon weight. In all monitored situations, vertical vibration is generally larger than horizontal vibration. The relationship between distance to pier and PPV is revealed by a power function modified from Sadovskii formula with high correlation factor. Analysis also indicates a much lower dominant frequency induced by low-speed trains with or without acceleration than normal speed trains. A dramatic amplitude reduction is shown within frequency between 25 Hz and 35 Hz when train speed is reduced. Empty wagons also show smaller amplitude in most frequency bands, with significant difference in 15-25 Hz. Analysis on the house also shows larger vibration in vertical than horizontal, and vibration amplitude in some frequency bands has exceeded relative criteria. Analysis result shows significant ground and house vibration effect form a viaduct, and piers should be considered as vibration sources for ground and houses in future studies.

The irregularity in the railway tracks is a very common topic of interest among the researchers in recent times. The trains run on the tracks with very high velocities to meet the demands of the passengers. But due to the unevenness of the track, the body of the train car faces vertical accelerations, which in turn causes discomfort to the passengers sitting inside the train car. In the present report, vertical acceleration is analyzed for uneven tracks by taking the car body as a single degree of freedom model. The investigation shows a clear explanation of the critical velocity values for the train, so as to maintain the passenger comfort conditions. Random sinusoidal curves were generated using MATLAB to analyze the random unevenness of the track. It is observed that the vertical accelerations in the car body are directly proportional to the speed of the train. Finally, a critical velocity is proposed for a train running on uneven sinusoidal profile track such that, the vertical acceleration not exceeding 0.2g.

Demiryolu ulaşımı güvenli oluşu, daha fazla kişi ve eşya taşımaya uygunluğu sebebiyle önemini her geçen gün arttırmaktadır. Raylı taşıtlara olan talep ile konfor ve hız anlamında bu araçlardan beklentiler artmış olup, çözüm için raylı taşıtlardaki dinamik etkiler üzerinde çalışmalar hızlandırılmıştır. Düşey ve yanal dinamik hareketler sonucu oluşan titreşimler araç güvenliği, yol tutuş ve konfor açısından yüksek hızlarda beklenen seviyeyi karşılamayabilmektedir. Dinamik etkilerin azaltılması için süspansiyon sistemleri üzerine yoğunlaşılan çalışmalarda geleneksel pasif sistemlerinin yerine, yapısında bir kontrol mekanizması da içeren aktif ve yarı aktif süspansiyon teknolojileri ön plana çıkmıştır. Aktif süspansiyon sistemlerinde mevcut pasif elemanlara ek olarak sisteme bir eyleyici ve kontrolcü eklenirken, yarı aktif süspansiyon sistemlerinde ise eyleyici olmadan sadece sönümleme elemanı üzerinden kontrol sağlanarak çözüm üretilmeye çalışılmıştır. Titreşim azaltmak için geliştirilen bir diğer yöntem süspansiyon sistemlerinin optimizasyonudur. Bu derlemede raylı taşıtlardaki dinamik hareketler, modelleme metotları ve yol girdileri incelenmiş olup aktif, yarı aktif sistem ve optimizasyon yöntemlerinin araç titreşimlerinin azaltılmasındaki etkileri ele alınmıştır. Titreşimin azaltılmasında en etkili yöntemin aktif sistemler olduğu ancak uygulamada makul sonuçlar alınamadığı belirlenmiştir. Bu çalışmada, demiryolu taşıtlarını modelleme ve oluşan titreşimleri azaltma konularında çalışacak gelecekteki araştırmacılara yol göstermesi amaçlanmıştır.
