Radar scan pattern analysis for reduction of false identification in electronic warfare support systems

Abstract: In a recent electronic warfare (EW), electronic support (ES) systems suffer from the ambiguity problem that multiple radar types are reported instead of picking out the specific one. Hence, a radar scan pattern has been utilised as an important feature to improve the accuracy of threat identification. However, since false identifications cause immediate danger to friendly forces, the probability of false identification should be reduced as well as the increase in identification accuracy. To cope with this nece… Show more

“…In addition to these three features, the kurtosis value of one period of received signal is also used for the classification in [13]. Similar analysis has also been done in [14]. The variance of the amplitude of the main beams and the interval between the main beams are used in the classification given in [14].…”

“…Similar analysis has also been done in [14]. The variance of the amplitude of the main beams and the interval between the main beams are used in the classification given in [14]. In addition to these two features, variance of the difference in the time interval between the main beams is used to reduce the false decision in raster scan types because of erroneous or omitted peaks.…”

“…Presently, with the continuous appearance of new wireless communication and position systems, locating the emitter signal (ES) plays a more and more important role in public security, fraud detection, and intelligent transportation systems [1,2,3]. Moreover, because of the ever-increasing number of different emitters and waveforms as well as increasing data processing demands, the location technique for ES becomes more difficult than before [4,5] and very essential.…”
