Quinoxaline derivatives as new inhibitors of coxsackievirus B5

Abstract: Enteroviruses are among the most common and important human pathogens for which there are no specific antiviral agents approved by the US Food and Drug Administration so far. Particularly, coxsackievirus infections have a worldwide distribution and can cause many important diseases. We here report the synthesis of new 14 quinoxaline derivatives and the evaluation of their cytotoxicity and antiviral activity against representatives of ssRNA, dsRNA and dsDNA viruses. Promisingly, three compounds showed a very po… Show more

“…BHK cells were seeded in 96-well plates at an initial density of 6×10 5 [13]. Compound's activity against CV-B4, Sb-1, VV, VSV, hRSV A2 and HSV-1 was determined by plaque reduction assays in infected cell monolayers as described previously [14]. Briefly, monolayer of Vero-76 cells was grown overnight on 24-well plate.…”

“…After a 3 or 4-days incubation at 37 °C, cell viability was determined by the MTT method, as described earlier [ 47 ]. Compound’s activity against CV-B5, Sb-1, VSV, VV, HSV-1 and RSV was determined by plaque reduction assays in infected Vero-76 cell monolayers, as described earlier [ 48 , 49 ]. Concentrations resulting in 50% inhibition (CC 50 or EC 50 ) were determined by linear regression analysis.…”

“…Activities of essential oils and compounds against CV-B4, Sb-1, VV, VSV, hRSV A2, and HSV-1 was determined by plaque reduction assays in infected cell monolayers as described previously [47]. Briefly, Vero-76 cells were cultured in 24-well tissue culture plate and with approximately 50/100 PFU/well of virus.…”
