“…We have since completed a fairly extensive study in which dose levels were systematically related to the extent of the salicylate-induced effect (Jastreboff & Brennan, 1992); the dose threshold level producing reliable behavioral effects in adults was between 100 and 150 mg/kg. Moreover, we have replicated the basic findings with quinine, also known to have auditory effects in humans (Jastreboff, Brennan, & Sasaki, 1991). With both salicylate and quinine, the drug-induced effects were resistant to changes in motivation and variation in the auditory background of subjects.…”

The main findings supporting the validity of the model arc [20]: (1) The effect of daily drug administration depend in a contrasting manner (facilitation vs. deepening of the suppression) on the stage of training when a drug was introduced.…”
