Quantum black hole entropy from 4d supersymmetric Cardy formula

Abstract: We study supersymmetric index of 4d SU (N ) N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory on S 1 × M 3 . We compute asymptotic behavior of the index in the limit of shrinking S 1 for arbitrary N by a refinement of supersymmetric Cardy formula. The asymptotic behavior for the superconformal index case (M 3 = S 3 ) at large N agrees with the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of rotating electrically charged BPS black hole in AdS 5 via a Legendre transformation as recently shown in literature. We also find that the agreement formally p… Show more

“…This important result was subsequently extended to various 4d N = 1 SCFTs [37][38][39][40][41]. For the purposes of the present paper, the most relevant is the observation made in [41], where the authors considered a Cardy-like limit of the superconformal index for the class of toric quiver gauge theories.…”

“…While most of the original work focused on asymptotically flat black holes, in the last few years there has been a lot of progress on black holes in Anti de Sitter (AdS) space and their holographic dual conformal field theories (CFT's), starting with [2,3] (see [4] for a review and a comprehensive list of references). In this paper we will be interested in rotating, supersymmetric AdS black holes, where very recent progress has been made in [5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13].…”

“…This was first achieved for five-dimensional black holes in asymptotically flat spacetime in the seminal work [1]. For black holes in asymptotically locally AdS spacetimes this has only been recently achieved, starting with certain magnetic black holes in 4d in [2], extended in various ways in [3][4][5][6][7], for magnetic black holes in 6d in [8][9][10][11][12][13], and for spinning black holes in 5d in [14][15][16][17][18][19]. These calculations rely on holography, exploiting the properties of the asymptotic SCFT dual and the powerful supersymmetric localization techniques developed in the past decade.…”
