Quantitative Models for Prediction of Toxic Component Concentrations in Smoke Gases from FTIR Spectra

Abstract: In this paper an overview is given of several methods for quantitative analysis of FTIR spectra. Each method has its particular advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, depending on the gas component to be analysed in smoke gas spectra, an optimal choice of method has to be made. This choice depends on several different aspects:

“…TLCP fibers select the relatively stable benzene ring skeleton group at about 1601 cm −1 as the reference peak, while PPTA fibers select the vibrational band of the aromatic group at 1515 cm −1 as the reference band. By comparing the normalized absorbance intensity [40], the peak shape and peak intensity of the two kinds of fiber did not change under different experimental conditions, and no new absorption peak appeared, indicating that the PPTA fibers are not affected by the hydrolysis reaction [16]; additionally, of course, there is no change in the chemical structure of the TLCP fibers. It seems that the chemical structure and the orientation structure of the crystal region of the two kinds of fibers have not changed after repeated extreme F-T experiments.…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…The Fourier transformed infrared (FTIR) analysis technique used has been validated during the Smoke Gas Analysis by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (SAFIR) project 60,61 which constituted the basis for fire gases analysis carried out following the guidelines of the standard ISO 19702. [60][61][62][63][64][65][66][67][68] First, to proceed to this 'calibration' step, several spectra (each one corresponding to a gaseous standard concentration diluted in N 2 ) for each species cited above were collected using our FTIR spectrometer. To obtain mixtures with different standard concentrations in N 2 , we used a dilution bench composed of several thermal mass flowmeters with outputs connected to transport the obtained gas mixture up to the FTIR gas cell through heated lines (T = 180°C).…”
