ABSTRACT. This article presents principle and geomorphological applicability of summit level technique using Aster Gdem satellite-derived topographic data. Summit level corresponds to the virtual topographic surface constituted by local highest points, such as peaks and plateau tops, and reconstitutes palaeogeomorphology before the drainage erosion. Summit level map is efficient for reconstitution of palaeosurfaces and detection of active tectonic movement. Base level is the virtual surface composed of local lowest points, as valley bottoms. The difference between summit level and base level is called relief amount. These virtual maps are constructed by the original software Baz. The macro concavity index, MCI, is calculated from summit level and relief amount maps. The volume-normalised three-dimensional concavity index, TCI, is calculated from hypsometric diagram. The massifs with high erosive resistance tend to have convex general form and low MCI and TCI. Those with low resistance have concave form and high MCI and TCI. The diagram of TCI vs. MCI permits to distinguish erosive characteristics of massifs according to their constituent rocks. The base level map for ocean bottom detects the basement tectonic uplift which occurred before the formation of the volcanic seamounts.Keywords: summit level, base level, morphological analyses, palaeo-surface, erosive resistance, active fault.Princípio e aplicabilidade das técnicas de seppômen e sekkokumen para análises geomorfológicas com base nos dados de satélites do Aster Gdem e o software original Baz RESUMO. Este artigo apresenta o princípio e a aplicabilidade geomorfológica da técnica de seppômen e sekkokumen utilizando-se os dados topográficos de satélite do Aster Gdem. O seppômen corresponde à superfície topográfica virtual constituída por pontos culminantes locais, tais como picos e topos de platôs, e reconstitui a paleogeomorfologia antes da erosão por drenagens. O mapa de seppômen é eficiente para reconstituição de paleossuperfícies e detecção de movimentos tectônicos ativos. O sekkokumen é a superfície virtual composta de pontos locais mais baixos, como fundo de vales. A diferença entre seppômen e sekkokumen é denominada kifukuryô. Esses mapas virtuais são elaborados pelo software original Baz. O índice de macro concavidade de maciço, MCI, é calculado a partir dos mapas de seppômen e kifukuryô. O parâmetro de convexidade tridimensional normalizado por volume, TCI, é calculado por diagrama hipsométrico. Os maciços com alta resistência erosiva tendem a ter forma geral convexa e altos MCI e TCI. Aqueles com baixa resistência erosiva possuem forma côncava e baixos MCI e TCI. O diagrama de TCI v.s. MCI permite distinguir as características erosivas do maciço de acordo com as rochas constituintes. This paper proposes a new method for modal analyses of centimetric phenocrysts and porphyroblasts using a digital rock image. The dot matrix image of the rock is imported into vectorial draw software as background. The outline of all of the phenocrysts is ResumoO presente artigo propõe um novo método para análise modal de fenocristais e porfiroblastos de tamanho centimétrico a partir de imagem digital. A imagem matricial da rocha é importada para um software de desenho vetorial como background. O contorno de todos os fenocristais é marcado na overlay por curvas vetoriais fechadas, sendo sua área interna pintada em preto. Após esta operação, a imagem da rocha no background é retirada e o background é pintado em branco. Os objetos vetoriais compostos do background e a overlay são exportados como uma imagem matricial de formato BMP. A porcentagem das áreas pintadas em preto corresponde à quantidade modal dos fenocristais e essa quantidade é calculada por software para análise quantitativa de cores Wilbur. Esse método tem alta precisão no processamento gráfico. Entretanto a translucidez da massa fundamental pode causar incerteza na marcação vetorial dos fenocristais. This article presents the development and characterization of environmentally friendly composites comprising polypropylene (PP) reinforced with Bahia Beige (BB) marble waste. The composites were prepared using different PP/BB weight ratios and analyzed for their chemical, physical, mechanical, microstructural, and thermal properties. X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis revealed the composition of BB, which exhibited a significant concentration of CaO, indicating the presence of calcite and other oxides. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the presence of PP and identified calcite, dolomite, and quartz phases in the composites. Due to enhanced ceramic reinforcement, the composites displayed increased crystallinity with higher BB content. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) analysis demonstrated the interaction between PP and BB, with the bands corresponding to PP being replaced by bands related to BB as filler content increased. The density tests indicated a slight increase in composite density without deviating significantly from pure PP, which is advantageous for low-density applications. The hardness of the composites increased with filler content, while the impact resistance decreased notably. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images showed the good distribution of BB within the composites and the presence of ductile characteristics on the composite surface. The heat deflection temperature (HDT) results revealed that adding BB up to 40% by weight increased HDT, whereas a significant reduction occurred at a 50% BB content. These composites demonstrated favorable properties for engineering applications, offering a sustainable solution through utilizing natural waste resources and contributing to Brazilian sustainability efforts.
