Qualitative response models

Abstract: This article gives a systematic discussion of various qualitative response models, with a special emphasis on multi.response and multirariate models. While some new models (notably, multi var iate polytomous probi, models) are defined, old models are given new interpretations. The article discusses the relative merits of tno basicall differing ways to formulate multivariate models: the one that specifies marinol probabilities first and the one that specifies conditional probabilities first.

“…While it does contain some distinct levels (state variables) to capture capital-turnover, most phenomena with filtering or delay attributes are represented as simple exponential-delay functions. The model uses generic Qualitative Choice Theory (QCT -McFadden 1974,1982,1986) algorithms for technology choices, which often incorporate simple exponential-forecasting among modeled decision-makers. As an accounting simplification, the model generates instantaneous realizations of secondary carbonemission effects of investment decisions via I/O tables (that capture the chain of causality across the U.S. and Rest-of-World economies).…”

“…Daniel McFadden pioneered the use of (psychologically framed) qualitative choice theory (QCT). QCT (McFadden 1982(McFadden , 1986) is actually very quantitative and determines the importance people place on information, tastes, beliefs, and preferences when making decisions. The robust parameterization of QCT is often based on data readily obtainable in the field.…”
