This study aimed to evaluate the tolerance of Psidium guineense Swartz seeds to air-dry storage and priming. Desiccation tolerance was analyzed for seed moisture content of 15%, 10% and 5%. The longevity of seeds during storage was analyzed in seeds with 5% and 10% moisture content maintained in cold and dry chamber (16˚C ± 1˚C/40% RH), laboratory environment (25˚C ± 2˚C/60% RH), refrigerator (5˚C ± 1˚C) and freezer (−18˚C ± 1˚C) during 90 days, and the priming effect in seeds that were imbibed for 5 or 10 days in polyethylene glycol 6000 at osmotic potentials of −0.3 MPa, −0.5 MPa, −0.7 MPa and −1.3 MPa. The quality of seeds was evaluated after desiccation, storage, and priming by the seeds germination, fresh weight of seedlings, seedlings growth, and germination medium time. The experimental design was completely randomized, with four replications of 25 seeds each one. Although a reduction in seed germination and seedling growth was observed in seeds with 10% and 5% moisture content, drying did not cause complete loss of seed germination and seedling development. Sour guava seeds exhibited an orthodox response to desiccation tolerance and storage. Seed germination and seedling growth were reduced with increased osmotic potential of osmoconditioning. However, conditioning of 10 days increased the seeds germination and optimized the average germination time to 20 days. The seeds of Psidium guineense are able to tolerate desiccation and storage for up to 90 days at a temperature of 5˚C ± 1˚C and priming for 10 days is a promising technique for propagation of P. guineense.

Myrcianthes pungens, native fruit with medicinal, ornamental and ecological potential, lacks information on biometry and technology for seed germination. Thus, the aim of this study was to characterize the fruits and seeds of M. pungens, determining the appropriate substrate for laboratory tests, as well as to evaluate the effect of different concentrations of gibberellic acid (GA 3 ) on the germination of the species. In the biometry, the mensuration of the fruits and seeds was made with the aid of a digital caliper. In the laboratory, three substrates (between filter paper, between vermiculite and between sand) were used, with five concentrations of GA 3 (0; 125; 250; 375 and 500 mg L -1 ) and the tests were conducted in a germination chamber. The percentage of germination, hard seeds, germination speed index and seedling length root and shoot were evaluated. The average fruit length and width were 17.38 and 16.05 mm, respectively. The fruits presented one or two seeds with 8.10; 9.56 and 6.49 mm in length, width and thickness. The germination test is more efficient between fine sand, and vermiculite may also be used. The wetting of the substrate with gibberellin in the concentration of 125 to 274 mg L -1 optimizes the percentage and speed of germination.

Este estudo teve como objetivo determinar a composição nutricional e a estabilidade de compostos fenólicos e antocianinas totais do guabijú, armazenados em temperatura ambiente a 25°C e refrigerados a 7°C. O fruto apresentou peso médio de 3,41 g; 78,79 % de rendimento em polpa e casca; pH de 4,33; acidez 0,03 %, 9,67 % de sólidos solúveis totais; 82,85 % de umidade; 4,48 % de fibras; 0,63 % de proteínas; 0,59 % de cinzas ou minerais totais; 0,31 % de lipídios; 219,58 mg de compostos fenólicos e 0,8 mg de antocianinas totais. Foram encontrados 83,75 mg de compostos fenólicos e 0,29 mg de antocianinas para o suco do guabijú. Os compostos fenólicos do suco diminuíram tanto no armazenamento à temperatura ambiente (25°C) quanto no resfriamento. A quantidade de antocianinas totais do suco do guabijú diminuiu sob refrigeração e aumentou em temperatura ambiente (25°C). O fruto guabijú merece maior atenção dos produtores e consumidores em função dos possíveis benefícios que proporciona ao organismo, devido à presença de antioxidantes.
