DescritoresTo evaluate the long-term effects of voice therapy on the life quality of teachers who were discharged or abandoned the voice therapy for dysphonia. Methods: This was a longitudinal study based on analysis of assessments with teachers of municipal schools in Belo Horizonte, who were referred to voice therapy and were discharged or abandoned the speechlanguage therapy for more than six months. A total of 33 teachers in the discharged group and 20 teachers in the abandoned group were contacted by phone and invited to participate in the study by answering the Voice activity and participation profile, which was forwarded to the researchers and sent via letter. Results: At the moment of the pre speech therapy, the discharged and abandoned groups were homogeneous, except in relation to daily communication parameter. Comparing the discharged group in the pre and post speech-language therapy, it was showed improvements in social communication parameter as well as in the total score. The discharged group presented worsening in self-perception parameter when comparing the average values in the post therapy and current moments, and the group abandoned presented worsening in work, social communication and total score when comparing to the average values in the pre therapy and current moments. The discharged and abandoned groups differ in the present moment in all investigated parameters. Conclusion: Speech-language therapy for dysphonia have long term positive effects on life quality and voice of teachers who were soon discharged from the therapy and in a period of two years on average. Teachers who have abandoned treatment and did not obtain improvement in the voice showed negative impact in life quality and voice in a time of 2 years and 2 months on average. RESUMOObjetivo: Avaliar os efeitos em longo prazo da fonoterapia na qualidade de vida de professoras que receberam alta ou abandonaram o tratamento fonoaudiológico para disfonia. Métodos: Tratou-se de um estudo longitudinal baseado na análise das avaliações realizadas com docentes da rede municipal de ensino de Belo Horizonte, encaminhados para fonoterapia, que tiveram alta ou abandonaram o tratamento fonoaudiológico há mais de seis meses. Participaram 33 professoras no grupo alta e 20 no grupo abandono que foram contatadas, por meio de ligações telefônicas, e convidadas a responder ao protocolo Perfil de participação em atividades vocais, enviado e reencaminhado às pesquisadoras por meio de carta. Resultados: No momento pré-fonoterapia, os grupos alta e abandono eram homogêneos, exceto em relação ao parâmetro comunicação diária. Na comparação do grupo alta nos momentos pré e pós-fonoterapia observou-se melhora no parâmetro comunicação social e no escore total. Teste de caminhada de seis minutos como ferramenta para avaliar a qualidade de vida em pacientes submetidos à cirurgia de revascularização miocárdicaSix-minute walk test as a tool for assessing the quality of life in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting surgery Abstract Objective: Evaluate the quality of life in patients undergoing myocardial revascularization using the sixminute walk test.Methods: This is a prospective observational study with patients undergoing CABG. We recorded the following clinical variables: the six-minute walk test and the SF-36 test. The patients were evaluated at the preoperative time and at 2 months of the postoperative period. Patients were evaluated preoperatively and divided into two groups according to the 6-minute walking test: the group with a walking course of >350 meters and the group with a walking course of less than 350 meters at the preoperative time.Results: The study population included 87 patients. Mean age was similar in both groups (59 ± 9.5 years vs. 61 ± 9.3 years, respectively, P = 0.24). Distances walked were significantly longer in the group with a walking course of >350 meters compared to the group with a walking course of <350 meters after 2 months of operation (436 ± 78 meters vs. 348 ± 87 meters; P <0.01). The quality of life was lower in the group with a walking course of <350 meters compared to the group with a walking course of >350 meters in the preoperative period in the following domains: functional capabilities, limitations due to physical aspects, overall health feelings, vitality, and social aspects. Quality of life improved after two months in both groups.Conclusions: The six-minute walk test at the preoperative time is associated with the quality of life after two months of coronary artery bypass grafting. In overall, quality of life has improved in all patients. Objective: To observe the quality of life of patients with implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD).Methods: This is a descriptive research with a quantitative approach. Data collection was done through an interview. The Questionnaire SF-36 was used to analyze data, which has been collected in a cardiovascular outpatient service. Fifty patients with this device took part in the study during their medical follow-up from January to December.Results: Of the 50 patients, 19 (38%) were female and 31 (62%) male. The mean age of the patients was 58.4 years, with ages ranging from 21 to 75 years. It was observed two domains regarding limitations by physical and emotional profiles below score 50. The domain social profiles presented the higher score 80.5. Most of the patients reported that their health was a little better compared with a year ago. Conclusion:The results showed a loss in the patients' quality of life, with lower scores in the physical and emotional profiles. There was no correlation between quality of life with the variables age, sex, marital status and education level. However, patients feel relieved and secure with the benefits provided by ICD in maintaining their lives by protecting them from sudden death.
