A água é um dos recursos naturais mais importantes do planeta, sendo o monitoramento ambiental uma ferramenta primordial para auxiliar na conservação qualitativa e quantitativa das propriedades físicas, químicas e biológicas da água. Dessa forma, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a qualidade da água e o estado trófico aquático do rio Guamá, no Município de Belém – PA, e relacionar os parâmetros abióticos e biótico com a sazonalidade da região. Foram realizadas doze coletas ao longo de um ano no rio Guamá. As amostras foram utilizadas para analisar os parâmetros: temperatura, pH, salinidade, sólidos em suspensão, turbidez, oxigênio dissolvido, fósforo total e clorofila a. Os resultados foram submetidos a testes estatísticos, comparados com a Resolução CONAMA n° 357 de 2005 e utilizados para calcular o Índice de Estado Trófico. A sazonalidade evidenciou, estatisticamente, influência sobre a temperatura e o oxigênio dissolvido. Apenas a clorofila a teve todos os resultados de acordo com os padrões da referida Resolução. Os dados do Índice de Estado Trófico mostraram características, predominantemente, eutróficas e hipereutróficas. Portanto, existe a possibilidade do impacto pela ação antrópica. Logo, torna-se cada vez mais necessário a conscientização da comunidade local a fim evitar o aumento dos níveis de deterioração da qualidade da água.

We aimed to investigate spatial and temporal scales, abundance, and factors that structure the communities of protozoans in a tropical urban stream. Methods: Samples of water for analysis of biological communities (testate amoebae, ciliates and bacteria) and limnological variables were taken in the Mandacaru stream located in the Conservation Unit of Parque do Cinquentenário, in the city of Maringá, Paraná State, Brazil, in two hydrological periods (dry and rainy). We calculated the Water Quality Index (WQI) composed by nine parameters of water quality (dissolved oxygen, thermotolerant coliforms, pH, BOD, water temperature, total nitrogen, total phosphorous, turbidity, and total solids), Trophic State Index (TSI) for phosphorous and we used a Redundancy Analysis (RDA) to verify the influence of environmental variables in the protozoan community. Results: The WQI showed that water quality was considered good in some points and considered bad in other points. The TSI for phosphorus classified the stream as mesotrophic in the majority of sampled sites points (mean between 53.09 and 58.35). We identified 19 taxa of testate amoebae, belonging to six families, being Difflugiidae, Centropyxidae, and Arcellidae those with more species and 71 infrageneric taxa of ciliates, distributed in 12 orders being Peniculida the most representative order, followed by Euplotida. According to RDA analysis, samples of the dry period were characterized by higher values of bacteria density and concentrations of chlorophyll-a, total phosphorous, and total nitrogen. Ciliates and testate amoebae presented higher abundance values in some of the months characterized by higher precipitation and in conditions of higher system productivity. Conclusion: we may conclude that the Mandacaru stream, although strongly influenced by anthropic action, still presents an acceptable water quality. Lastly, we emphasize that protists abundance was strongly influenced by system productivity. This was evidenced by elevated protozoan densities where there was higher primary and bacterial productivity. Thus, these organisms must be considered in studies that aim at the identification of organisms that may indicate anthropic impacts and environmental quality.

This study aimed to evaluate the microbiological quality of the water of four ponds used for irrigation on the Lagoa do Sino Farm, as well as to perform the genotypic characterization of virulence factors in Escherichia coli isolates. Sampling was conducted for 11 months, between 2015 and 2016. Samples were analyzed for the presence of thermotolerant coliforms, E. coli and heterotrophs. DNA was extracted from E. coli isolates, followed by genotypic characterization by polymerase chain reaction. Agricultural activities and pesticides used in the sampling period were documented in order to assess possible relationships between agricultural activities and microbiological water quality. The absence of suitable riparian vegetation around all the ponds was observed, benefiting the entry of organic matter and contaminants in the water body. A high index of thermotolerant coliforms in some months indicated the possibility of the transmission of pathogenic microorganisms in these ponds. The values found in some months were above the regulatory limits for water potability and water intended for irrigation. The agrochemicals used in the period seem to influence the results obtained. All 17 E. coli isolates showed at least one of the virulence genes estA, stx1, stx2, and aatA, indicating enterotoxigenic, enterohaemorrhagic or enteroaggregative nature. The presence of E. coli in the waters may be associated with the presence of animals. The water samples analyzed are not suitable for irrigation of vegetables that are consumed raw and/or low lying fruits ingested without skin removal. It is essential to broaden the control of the use of chemicals, as well as the preservation of riparian vegetation to improve the quality of water used in the farm's agricultural activities.
