Psychometric Evaluation of the Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction and Frustration Scale (BPNSFS) in Italy

Abstract: Abstract:Two studies were conducted to adapt the Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction and Frustration Scale (BPNSFS) to the Italian context. Results suggest that the BPNSFS can be considered a promising instrument in the context of SDT-based research for investigating satisfaction and frustration of the three basic needs in Italy.http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/mecd Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development Psychometric Evaluation of the Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction and Frustration Sc… Show more

“…The BPNSFS is currently the most widely used measure. Originally validated in Dutch, English, Spanish, and Chinese, today a variety of translations and contextspecific adaptations are available, including validations in German (Heissel et al 2018), Japanese (Nishimura and Suzuki 2016), Italian (Costa et al 2018), Hebrew (Benita et al 2020), Turkish (Selvi and Bozo 2020), and Portuguese (Cordeiro et al 2016). It has also been adapted for specific contexts, including work (Rouse et al 2020;Schultz et al 2015), school (Vandenkerckhove 2019b), and volunteering, among others (see Appendix for an overview of different translations and adaptations).…”

“…These findings speak to the universal role of the needs and, since their publication in 2015, have been replicated in dozens of different countries, with various translations and adaptations being developed (see Vansteenkiste et al, in press). To illustrate, the scale has been validated in Japanese (Nishimura and Suzuki, 2016), Portuguese (Cordeiro et al, 2016a,b), Italian (Costa et al, 2017), and Hebrew (Benita et al, 2019) to name a few translations.…”
