Abstract: Mechanisms that sense and regulate epithelial morphogenesis and homeostasis are incompletely understood. Schepis et al. provide evidence that protease-activated receptor Par2b and matriptase, a membrane-tethered protease, can regulate apical extrusion and other epithelial responses involved in tissue remodeling and inflammation.
