Abstract: In this study, CT proved to be a satisfactory modality in evaluating patients with suspected colonic obstruction. CT may in certain circumstances be preferable to the traditional CE in evaluating these patients.

“…Furthermore, the ability to accurately localize the adhesion site may be helpful when laparoscopic treatment of the adhesion is considered. In LBO, the differential diagnosis between tumoral stenosis and inflammatory stenosis is sometimes difficult [7]. Reformatting in a plane of the stenosis and colon immediately above it may be helpful for investigating the relationship between normal and involved colon (Fig.…”

“…CT when associated with multiplanar reconstruction has a sensitivity of 83 %, specificity of 93 %, and an accuracy of 91 % in determining the presence of ischemic complications. [6][7][8][9] In addition, it helps to provide detailed information about the severity of obstruction from sources such as diverticular disease, obstructive masses, or internal hernias. CT is much more readily available and easier to order in most practices.…”

“…6a, b Incarcerated crural hernia. Computed tomography shows a bowel loop passing through the left femoral canal, medially to the femoral vessels, and the hernia does not reach the superior part of the thigh however, contrast enema may be nondiagnostic because the patient could not hold the contrast or tolerate insertion of the rectal tube [19]. Additionally, the search for other more proximal tumors is difficult with contrast enema and the evaluation of the viability of the cecum is impossible.…”
