Proposal of a Product Indicator as a Tool for a Comprehensive Assessment of Windows

Abstract: Windows are elements of great incidence on building consumption and therefore with great saving potential. When designing high-energy efficiency windows, it is possible to negatively influence the indoor environment quality. To ensure indoor environmental quality, hygrothermal comfort, acoustic comfort, luminous comfort, physical-chemical and microbiological contaminants in the air, and the electromagnetic environment must be considered.  Of all these aspects, windows intervene in four of them:  hygrothermal c… Show more

“…Sunlight enters the courtyard and the interior of the eco-house through a strip of glazing. The area of the strip glazing can be adjusted to achieve a microclimate (Arranz et al , 2018). The courtyard is paved by natural materials, such as local stone slates, ceramic bricks, etc.…”

“…These studies involved field measurements (Wahab et al, 2018), surveys (Mori et al, 2020), and computer simulations (Marino et al, 2017;Mousa et al, 2017;Amirkhani et al, 2018;Altun & Kiliç, 2019). One study on energy-saving windows ignored the window type utilised (Bayoumi, 2017), while two studies on natural ventilation in a hot and humid climate focused on defining the perfect window design by various attributions adapted (Hwang & Lee, 2018) and producing a guidance tool for windowmakers focusing on the adaptation procedures related to cost, product quality, and the indoor environment (Arranz et al, 2018).…”

“…Three papers demonstrate the expanding scope of architectural and urban research including spatial analysis and assessment studies Tarabieh et al, 2018;Arranz et al, 2018;and Elbakheit, 2018). Additional substantial and important series of contributions in the area of architectural and built environment education were included.…”
