“…Together, the above results demonstrate that (i) the Golgi UDP-GlcNAc transporter protein of the MDCK cells has the same function as the corresponding one from K. lactis even though they share very little amino acid sequence identity and (ii) a mammalian Golgi transporter protein has the necessary Golgi targeting information to allow it to be expressed in a functional manner in a heterologous system such as yeast and thus result in phenotypic correction of a cell surface defect.
