Progress of research into circular RNAs in urinary neoplasms

Abstract: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a large class of endogenous RNA that form a covalently closed continuous loop without 5′ or 3′ tails and are diffusely expressed in mammalian cells. Through the development of high-throughput sequencing, microarray, and bioinformatics analyses, recent studies have shown that the expression of circRNAs is dysregulated in human tumor tissues and cells, as well as in the blood of patients, and closely correlates with the development of tumors. circRNAs can regulate the progression of … Show more

“…In recent years, it has been suggested that miRNAs act as a bridge in the realization of the role of cirRNAs in the regulation of cellular processes (39). CircRNAs change gene expression by acting as miRNA sponges with their binding sites (3, 40). As increased expression rates of circRNAs in the cell may contribute to decreased expression levels of target miRNAs and the increased expression levels of target genes.…”

“…circRNAs have been shown to play crucial roles in the cell, and in recent years this RNA class has been one of the most important research focuses, particularly in the field of cancer (Fig. 1) (3) The precise biological classification of the BC subtype is critical for predicting the disease’s progression. Clinical management of BC is dependent on criteria such as tumor size, age, Estrogen (ER) and Progesterone (PR) expression, and the presence or absence of amplification and concurrent enhanced Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) expression.…”

“…A number of studies have suggested that circRNAs can be found in multiple tissues and various circRNAs exert specific roles during tumor progression, with distinctive expression patterns ( 15 17 ). circRNAs may mediate tumor progression by modulating the cell cycle and metastasis of cancer cells via distinct mechanisms of action.…”

“…Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have also been linked to EMT and PCa progression, although the evidence supporting these roles for circRNAs in PCa is continuing to emerge. Circular RNAs are closed loop sequences of RNA that lack 5′ or 3′ ends, and have the ability to affect gene expression by binding to miRNA (acting as miRNA sponges), RNA binding proteins, and protein kinases, among other components [ 218 ]. Dai et al found that the circRNA myosin light chain kinase (MYLK) was significantly upregulated in both bladder and prostate cancers, and that it promoted cancer progression via the downregulation of miRNA-29a expression [ 219 ].…”
