Abstract: Purpose: The purpose of this retrospective study was to determine the association and prognostic value of body mass index (BMI) at the time of initialdiagnosis inpatients withlocallyadvancedbreast cancer (LABC). The analysis includes the subsets of inflammatory (IBC) and noninflammatory (non-IBCLABC) breast cancer. Experimental Design: We identified 602 patients who had LABC treated on prospective clinical trials. BMI was divided into three groups: (a) V24.9 (normal/underweight), (b) 25.0 to 29.9 (overweight),… Show more

“…Obesity has been associated with a higher risk and a poor prognosis of breast cancer in multiple studies (Tartter et al, 1981;van den Brandt et al, 2000;Lahmann et al, 2004;Kroenke et al, 2005;Caan et al, 2008;Dawood et al, 2008). According to an American Cancer Society study, obesity can increase the mortality of patients with cancers of the breast, kidneys, liver, etc.…”

“…36 Interestingly, poor prognostic associations between obesity and other types of tumours have been established. [37][38][39] Although our study was not designed to assess the association between elevated BMI and worse locally advanced rectal cancer treatment outcomes, the controversial effects of obesity and outcomes of colorectal carcinoma treatment requires further study.…”
