Abstract: The most important prognostic factor for overall survival was the extent of resection. Further studies with larger numbers of patients are required to confirm the prognostic factors and to obtain a better understanding of the biological behavior of TETs.

“…Although currently no randomized controlled trial has been conducted for the criterion of standard TET treatment, empiric evidence has led surgical resection to be the predominant therapy and has identified complete resection as a consistent prognostic factor 24–26. In our study, complete resection led to an 87% 7‐year survival rate, whereas incomplete resection only reached 56%, which was significant in the univariate analysis.…”

“…M odified Masaoka staging and complete resection consistently have been shown to predict prognosis in thymoma. [1][2][3][4][5] Recently, Moran et al 6 also proposed a staging system for thymoma and showed correlation with outcome. Although currently the World Health Organization (WHO) classification is used for the morphologic classification of thymomas, several histological classifications have been proposed and used in the past; however, their prognostic significance and ability to guide further treatment have been controversial.…”
