Production of biosurfactant by Bacillus subtilis LB5a on a pilot scale using cassava wastewater as substrate

Abstract: The main characteristic of biosurfactants is their property of reducing the superficial and interfacial tension between two immiscible liquids of different polarities. The main obstacle to the application of biosurfactants is the high production costs, the use of alternative substrates being indicated to solve this problem. This work report the production of biosurfactant by Bacillus subtilis LB5a on a pilot scale using cassava wastewater as the substrate, and the study of the parameters related to its product… Show more

“…Bibliography [25] evaluated the emulsion obtained using the biosurfactant produced by Bacillus subtilis, cassava wastewater as substrate and several hydrocarbons and vegetable oil. Their results showed high emulsification index values for most of carbon sources used, including cyclic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, and vegetable oils with different fatty acids.…”

“…Cropping of this microorganism for biosurfactant production in cassava was carried out in a pilot bioreactor, New Brunswick Scientific ® , model Mobile Pilot Plant fermentor 8000 MP 80 with 56 L of cassava wastewater as growth medium and 4 L of inoculum. The experimental conditions of such bioreactor, procedures for obtaining semipurification of biosurfactant, are described by Nitschke and Pastore (2003), Nitschke et al (2004) and Barros et al (2008).…”

“…Em consonância com os trabalhos de Barros [12] e [8], a produção da enzima foi detectada com a titulação com NaOH 0,05 M. O consumo do hidróxido de sódio evidenciou a presença do ácido graxo produzido mediante ação de hidrólise da enzima lipase. A lipase foi produzida em todas as condições previstas no planejamento experimental e são mostradas na Figura 3.…”
