Probabilistic corrosion fatigue life assessment of a suspension bridge instrumented with long-term structural health monitoring system

Abstract: The long-term performance of engineering structures in a corrosive environment will be significantly affected by the coupled action of corrosion and fatigue. In this article, a probabilistic corrosion fatigue analytical model is proposed by taking into account the effects of corrosion-induced reduction of the cross-sectional area and deterioration of the fatigue strength of structural components. The proposed model is exemplified to evaluate the probabilistic corrosion fatigue life of a typical welded joint in… Show more

“…Section loss using an exponential function (Komp, 1987), the average corrosion penetration rate, and deterioration rate including corresponding coefficients were measured for time-dependent structural capacity. In addition to the field-measured stress spectra for fatigue life assessment of welding details (Ye et al, 2012), recent studies (Deng et al, 2019; Hosseini et al, 2013; Ye et al, 2017; Zhang and Yuan, 2014) investigated composite steel girder bridges to evaluate the long-term structural deterioration of composite bridge under combined fatigue–corrosion behavior. Variation of stress level considering section loss of steel girder was evaluated in finite element (FE) model.…”

“…To achieve this goal, various advanced sensing technologies are employed with interdisciplinary knowledge to support SHM with convenient monitoring ways and reliable data acquisition. Interdisciplinary research is needed for the development of sensing techniques for various types of measurements (Duan et al, 2016;Ye et al, 2017). Displacement is one of the most commonly used indicators for structural assessment (Chen et al, 2014(Chen et al, , 2015(Chen et al, , 2019; and various displacement measurement methods using different technologies have been proposed and implemented.…”
