Prioritization of Physical Assets for Maintenance and Production Sustainability

Abstract: Maintenance is one of the main drivers for ensuring the sustainability of manufacturing in capital-intensive production systems. However, in many cases, as a result of budgetary constraints, it is necessary to select which machines will be subject to maintenance actions on the basis of a list of priorities. Traditionally, such prioritization decisions are made using techniques which, in general, do not consider the systemic impact of maintenance actions. This paper is focused at the definition of a novel graph… Show more

“…Proper maintenance and management of physical assets has positive effects on the economic, environmental and social performance of corporate sustainability (Dur an and Dur an, 2019;Maleti c et al, 2018), and sustainable maintenance management contributes to the reduction of maintenance impacts on sustainability (Franciosi et al, 2018). Maintenance impacts and performance should be measured to evaluate and control the gap between the actual and desired sustainable performance.…”

“…The evaluation of the prioritization of the assets is performed by looking at their criticality, assessed from several perspectives depending on specific business requirements [8]. The multiple perspectives extend the traditional machine-narrowed, availability-focused criticality evaluation of assets towards a broader set of characteristics, envisioned to be more sustainability [9] and system level [10] oriented for the coming years. However, extended criticality analyses are not widely spread in industry for various reasons and several shortages exist in the related tools [11].…”

“…Mukhtar et al [4] carried out a techno-economic feasibility study on a 500 kW PV micro grid integrated into the electric system to determine the effect of electricity consumption on the economic development and environmental sustainability across 12 cities in Nigeria. The sustainable selective maintenance technique was proposed by Duran and Duran [5] for an industrial manufacturing system by a technique known as the Overall Equipment Effectiveness index. This technique was used to determine the effects of maintenance decisions, as well as their operational implications.…”
